A new report from the Food and Agriculture Organization shows that the number of land animals bred, kept and slaughtered for food has reached an all-time high, with an estimated 92.2 billion animals being killed each year.

The food system has been identified as a significant cause of climate change, while the extent of animal suffering is beyond comprehension.
A team from Humane Society International will attend the United Nations Framework on Climate Change conference in Bonn, Germany, this month, to engage with negotiators, high-level officials and key stakeholders to advocate for a transformation of the global food system that we all so desperately need.
Plant-based eating habits can lead to a 49% reduction in the food system’s greenhouse gas emissions, a 76% reduction in food’s land use, and a 19% reduction in freshwater use.Knowing that a small commitment to consuming more plant-based meals each week can make a big difference is truly heartening and motivating.
