Vivici, a startup formed by Fonterra and DSM-Firmenich, aims to disrupt the emerging “animal-free dairy” category. The company is already in a position to supply commercial quantities of whey protein from fermentation to the US market, just over a year after its creation. Vivici leverages decades of experience in developing and scaling bioprocesses, with world-leading knowledge in the isolation and application of dairy proteins.

The joint venture successfully closed its seed funding round, with both Fonterra and DSM-Firmenich as founding investors. This exciting opportunity combines DSM-Firmenich’s precision fermentation expertise with Fonterra’s dairy science and technology, positioning Vivici as an agile startup company poised for success.

As a result of the founders’ expertise in dairy proteins and industrial-scale biomanufacturing, the Netherlands-based startup has been able to move unusually rapidly thanks to GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status in the USA.

With decades of experience in industrially optimizing yeast strains, Vivici draws on proprietary biotechnology to produce its products.
