Even with shifts in the variety of meat consumed, individuals residing in the U.S. continue to increase their meat consumption.
While hamburgers and hot dogs are often associated with major holidays in the country, chicken has emerged as the top choice for meat consumption.
Is the consumption of meat high in the United States?
According to data gathered from the FAO, the United States and Portugal have the same level of meat consumption per person, making them tied for the highest in the world. The annual consumption of food per person in both countries amounts to an average of 149 kg/327.8 lb. While chicken is the primary choice in the United States, in Portugal, eaters tend to gravitate towards fish and other delectable seafood options.
