An increase in the pet population is expected to drive market growth due to the increase in the shift of pet owners’ focus towards natural foods from synthetic foods which has been raising the market growth.

Organic Pet Food Market Flourishes with High Nutrition and Eco-Friendly Ingredients

The organic pet food market is witnessing a surge in popularity as pet owners increasingly prioritize the health and well-being of their beloved animals. Organic pet food, rich in nutrients, boasts a blend of organic meats, fruits, vegetables, minerals, and essential vitamins. These wholesome ingredients are cultivated without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or ionizing radiation.

Market

In a conscientious effort to safeguard the health of animals involved in the production of meat, poultry, eggs, or dairy products, organic pet food adheres to strict standards. It prohibits the use of antibiotics or growth hormones. The term “organic” in this context signifies a precisely defined system for the production and handling of plant and animal ingredients.

Organic Pet Food Market Dynamics

The organic pet food market is thriving, driven by a rising number of pet owners who are becoming increasingly aware of their pets’ dietary needs. This growth is particularly noticeable as pet owners shift their focus from synthetic foods to natural alternatives.

For instance, a 2023 report by Forbes revealed that Millennials represent the largest percentage of current pet owners, comprising 33% of this demographic. In 2022, Americans spent $136.8 billion on their pets, a remarkable 10.68% increase from the previous year’s spending of $123.6 billion. Furthermore, according to the 2021-2022 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, 70% of U.S. households own a pet, totaling 90.5 million homes. This trend is expected to continue, contributing to the ongoing expansion of the organic pet food market.

Challenges in the organic pet food market include the high cost of organic pet food and a lack of awareness among pet owners about these products. Additionally, due to stringent regulations, organic pet food recipes are not readily available in stores, posing a hurdle to market growth.

Organic Pet Food Market Segment Analysis

The global organic pet food market is segmented based on food form, pet type, distribution channel, and region. Notably, the wet food segment has captured a substantial share of the market, accounting for 48.4%.

Wet foods are a popular choice among pet owners due to their higher levels of protein, phosphorus, sodium, and fat compared to dry or semi-moist foods. Pet owners prefer wet organic foods to provide their pets with a comprehensive range of essential nutrients, promoting their overall well-being.

The expansion of wet pet food product varieties is anticipated to drive the segment’s growth. For example, on September 18, 2023, Omni, a U.K.-based vegan pet food business, introduced its first meat-like vegan dog food product. Furthermore, on June 14, 2023, Pet Supplies Plus launched a new line of OptimPlus wet food, catering to both dogs and cats, offering pet parents additional health-focused options.
