The production of meat alternatives from cultured cells, which Todd Wilkinson calls lab-grown protein, is becoming more popular globally.

As a cattle rancher in De Smet, South Dakota, and the leader of National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Wilkinson participated in the World Meat Congress that took place in the Netherlands in October 2023.

Wilkinson said that this issue was very important there, as there were representatives from many different countries. He expected that everyone would share the same views on some of these discussions at a global meat congress.

However, there was no consensus. One of the firms present announced their goal of mixing at least 20% of a lab-grown meat product with minced meat in the next three years.
