European Biotechnology reports that the Republicans (Les Républicains) party of France has proposed a bill in the National Assembly to ban the production and sale of lab-grown meat in the country.
The proposed law states that producing, processing, and selling synthetic meat is prohibited in France, in order to protect human health, animal health, and the environment.
According to the bill’s supporters, cultivated meat companies claim to offer a highly processed alternative to low-quality imported meat, which contains “questionable additives” and is produced under obscured conditions.
