A new initiative to farm fish has been started by India’s CMFRI, according to The New Indian Express.
With the goal of using cellular agriculture to meet the increasing need for fish and minimize the ecological damage caused by overfishing and conventional fishing methods, the CMFRI, a prominent organization in tropical marine research, has launched a new project.
According to local media, CMFRI and Neat Meatt, a Delhi-based company that offers cultivated meat technology solutions, agreed to work together to create a profitable method for mass-producing valuable fish such as kingfish.
The partnership will involve the CMFRI doing research on genetics, biochemistry, and analytics, while Neat Meatt will improve cell growth media, create scaffolds or microcarriers for cell adhesion, and set up a system for large-scale production.
Dr. A Gopalakrishnan, the Director of CMFRI, views this partnership as an important step in linking India with the top nations in cultivated meat production.
