Detroit, Michigan –News Direct– Benzinga

By Rachael Green, Benzinga

As the global population continues to grow, so does the demand for meat, shedding light on the increasingly pressing environmental challenges associated with meat production. In response to this dilemma, companies like Steakholder Foods Ltd (NASDAQ: STKH) are pioneering innovative technologies in the realm of lab-grown meat. Here’s an overview for investors regarding the emergence of food printing.

Meat production currently stands as a major contributor to the agricultural industry’s emissions and deforestation concerns, accounting for approximately one-third of the problem. An intriguing statistic emerges when considering the potential impact of reducing global meat consumption by half: it could lead to a remarkable 31% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions generated by the agricultural sector. Furthermore, the substantial acreage currently devoted to livestock farming would see a substantial reduction, effectively mitigating the net loss of forests. If just half of this reclaimed land were reforested through tree planting initiatives, it would double the emissions reduction achieved by the 31% drop.

Despite the compelling potential to alleviate environmental pressures and conserve finite natural resources, the trajectory of meat consumption points in a different direction. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) anticipates that rather than decreasing, global meat consumption is projected to rise by 14% by the year 2030. This underscores the complex challenge of reconciling the growing appetite for meat with the imperative to address environmental sustainability.
