Bioactive protein company Helaina is about to disrupt the health industry with its innovative animal-free lactoferrin, a powerful ingredient known for its immune-boosting properties. Recently reaching a significant production milestone, the New York-based startup is ready to integrate this ingredient into consumer health products.

Helaina’s journey began in 2019, and since then, it has attracted over $25 million in investments. Being part of the Precision Fermentation Alliance, the company passionately advocates for a sustainable and resilient food system through precision fermentation.

Lactoferrin, a protein prevalent in breast milk, offers a variety of health benefits, such as enhancing nutrient absorption, cognitive support, and providing antimicrobial defense. As such, it’s an invaluable addition to products like infant formula, functional foods, and nutritional supplements.

“Scaling up the production of Lactoferrin is just the beginning,” stated Laura Katz, the founder and CEO of Helaina. “Our precision fermentation platform is a pathway to a new, reliable source of high-value, immune-boosting ingredients.”
