THORNTON, Colo. (AP) — Lars Obendorfer, the owner of the stands known as “Best Worscht in Town,” expressed that he felt deeply offended when he initially introduced vegan sausage to his menu. To his surprise, he ended up mediating between customers who were engaged in a heated debate on social media, all over what seemed like an ordinary menu item to him.

According to him, there was a clear display of hostility between the individuals who consumed meat and those who followed a vegan lifestyle.

His vegan currywurst, which is a plant-based version of the traditional German fast food made with pork sausage, ketchup, and curry powder, has become a permanent item on the menu at all 25 of his stands in Germany.

He sells a staggering 200,000 sausages per year, with 15% of them being comprised of plant-based components.

According to customer Yasemin Dural, the taste of the sausage is actually quite similar to that of a normal sausage. “At first, I had doubts that it might be a meat sausage, but interestingly, you really don’t notice it.”
